bit of a funny year so far

It has been a bit of a funny year for me so far, painting individually and not in series has been a strange experience. Plus not having to work towards open studios. The black dog moved in, a different time this year all adding up to making it a bit of a funny year.

I did start out painting in series as usual however I found my focus shifted from ‘silence’ to painterly and gestural. Consequently, each painting I have done this year so far are coming disjointedly. Gestural and colourful; not sure why this is, although several things are different.

Not having to work towards open studio allowed me more freedom. Albeit I did have to have some work ready for Artwave West as support artist for Time Reclaimed. The selection they had to choose from was not as cohesive as my usual works, because of this.

If you get a chance to go to the show, let me know what you think, I would love to know.

‘Time Reclaimed’ running from 16th August to 28th

My work so far this year can be seen on my website take a look, I would be interested in your response.

Plans for the rest of the year

I have six new boards to work on once the light returns. At the moment I am intending to work painterly and gestural to see where that leads me. This year was supposed to be no pressure as I hadn’t a particular show to work towards and I was going to do some experimenting. Perhaps that is why these things have been creeping in, subliminal suggestion.

I intend to take a break once they are done. Possibly back onto Dartmoor or maybe by the sea. Not sure yet as I like to be a bit spontaneous and go where the mood takes me. But I do need to get away and reground myself, and soon.

Quick update, painterly, gestural experimental mmmm not at all sure, I will try to get a post done on how I did in the next week, whatch this space

Although I am off to a residency in Cornwall with Jenny Graham at the end of the year and am hoping for turbulent seas; I plan to make lots of rough sketches and see how that informs my work for 2020 I will blog again from Cornwall in December, to let you know how it is going.
